Why I’m Obsessed with Castile Soap
I am mildly addicted to Castile soap. It is all-natural and non-toxic. It is versatile enough to do the job of at least 11 household and personal cleaners. It is a gentle soap made entirely of vegetable fats. The soap can be made from jojoba, castor, olive, hemp seed, and walnut oils to name a few of the biodegradable ingredients it contains. Because Castile soap is made from saponified oils it has hydrating properties.
The soap is also a powerful cleanser that can be used throughout the house in a variety of ways. I use peppermint Castile soap in the laundry. Depending on the size of the load, you can wash with 1/3 of a cup or 1/2 a cup. Because I use the strong scent of peppermint, I only add a bit less than about a 1/4 cup to my regular laundry detergent. I use Castile soap as a body wash (unscented, almond, or with the essential oils I choose) and it is also a great cleanser for makeup brushes.
You can take 1/4 a cup of Castile soap to two cups of water and make an all-purpose household cleaner. Adding about 10 to 15 drops essential oil will give your cleanser whatever scent you choose.
Other uses for Castile soap include:
Use in carpet cleaning machine
Add to a bucket of water and wash your floors
1 part Castile soap + 10 parts water = dish detergent
1 tablespoon Castile soap + quart water = window cleaner
Can be used to make an insecticide
