Plant. Grow. Flourish.
The concept
Minding My Garden is a space for small, mindful, and mighty practices and rituals to take root. This site is about patience and growth, compassion for yourself, and creating daily habits to sustain you.
A garden requires you to tend to it. It requires cutting away what is dead, keeping harmful invaders at bay, and consistent attention to cultivate a harvest. It is the same for us as human beings, particularly as we collectively try to navigate through an uncertain and unpredictable world. I hope to offer respite and community here. A space for being intentional about growing and flourishing in our personal lives, no matter what other commitments we must keep.
The Seed Club component is for dreamers and doers that are starting or growing nonprofit or for-profit enterprises. We love creatives, freelancers, solopreneurs and folks hustling to make it happen. The Seed Club legal subscription service launches in 2024 but, in the meantime you can book a legal consult directly with me.
The founder
I am a recovering workaholic looking for balance in a chaotic world. I have more degrees than I can count, including a JD and a PhD. I didn’t go to therapy until I was well into adulthood, after realizing that mental health check ups and processing trauma didn’t make me crazy.
The most important things I’ve learned in recent years are unconditional self-love, boundaries, and accountability. The motto for Minding My Garden is plant, grow, flourish because that’s the personal journey I’m on, and it applies to all aspects of my life.
I am a native of Louisville, Kentucky. My hometown heroes are Alberta Jones & Muhammad Ali. I formerly worked in the field of juvenile justice in New Orleans, Louisiana and am now a legal research and policy manager. All the work I’ve gravitated towards has been centered on black liberation which, can also be incredibly draining.
Music helps me keep my sanity; my record collection and Tidal account are dear to me. Once upon a time I was a Pan-African Studies professor, and I wrote a few articles. You might find some of my musings about political theory around this site one day.
I founded Minding My Garden because life is so much bigger than productivity as defined by the capitalist system we seek to function in daily. I wanted to share my journey focused on joy, creativity, and growth. Hopefully you are inspired to find what it is that serves and supports you too.

this version of me again
let me slow down
and be with her”
