Weekend Get Away: Chicago Edition
The Hoxton Chicago
Everyone loves a good weekend get away, and when you’re only in town for a few days, limiting commute time is a must. When visiting a city for 2 to 3 days on a quick fly in and out, where you stay is really the biggest part of the trip. For this edition of the Weekend Get Away, I’m talking about the Hoxton in Chicago. Located in the posh and swanky Fulton Market District in the West Loop, it has all the amenities on site while being near everything you need. Here’s how I spent a quick weekend in Chi-town.
The Hotel
The Hoxton sits at the intersection of Lake and Green Street, near Restaurant Row. There are bars, dispensaries, and restaurants galore within walking distance, you can honestly just explore the area all weekend. I stayed at the hotel the weekend of the West Loop Art Fest and wandered through the six-blocks of vendors and live entertainment.
The hotel itself has a very dope rooftop that includes a pool and the restaurant Cabra Cevicheria that serves Peruvian-inspired fare. I tried the goat empanadas and papas huancaina poolside. Honestly, the rooftop pool with its incredible skyline views is precisely why I booked this hotel and it did not disappoint. The Hoxton is featured on all discount hotel sites and if you book a few months in advance, you can catch a deep discount using Hotel Tonight or Priceline.
In the hotel basement is a lounge called The Lazy Bird featuring live music Thursday through Sunday nights. It got packed pretty early and had limited seating but, it’s a low lit intimate cocktail bar. The lobby has a DJ around the clock which creates a dope vibe in the main entryway to the space. There are bikes to rent in the lobby along with a nice-sized bar and ample seating. All of this is to say that if you want to kick it in the hotel all weekend, you can do just that. There’s a decent sized gym in the basement too.
The rooms are nicely designed, with all the amenities you need. I especially loved the bluetooth speaker. There are walk-in showers and the toiletries are made by Blank exclusively for The Hoxton. My view of construction across the street wasn’t the best but, there was plenty of lighting from the large industrial windows, and the room was large enough to meet my needs without feeling cramped.
Stay tuned for part two where I talk about the restaurants I tried for the weekend.
