One of the most powerful meditations

This title is a misnomer. The meditation I am talking about is actually a 21 Day Abundance Series from Deepak Chopra that changed my life. I say that without any hyperbole whatsoever. By the end of participating in the series with some friends I love dearly, I had accepted my dream job and a few weeks later moved from Atlanta back to the city I have always loved, New Orleans, Louisiana.

It was 2020 when I randomly received a WhatsApp message from an acquaintance inviting me to join the meditation series group. The invitation to join came in mid-May, the point at which, I think we were all slowly beginning to realize that the pandemic was not ending any time soon and we would be indoors for the foreseeable future. I was privileged enough to work from home during this time, and I enthusiastically joined.

I am an advocate for meditation, I feel like the practice of keeping still is a key aspect of my wellness journey. It is something I wish to make a consistent daily habit for my health and spiritual growth. This meditation series in particular was different than any other meditation practice I had engaged in previously. I taught at a public charter school in D.C. with a meditation bell, signaling it was time for everyone at the school to stop and meditate for 15 minutes. I’ve sat with Buddhists at a Unitarian Church in Louisville, and I even tried a meditation retreat on a farm. But this was the first meditation series over a period of days that maintained one clear consistent theme. The 21 Day Abundance Series had a clear goal- cultivating abundance.

For each of the 21 days there is an assignment to do. You do the assignment privately on your own time, and then the meditation that follows. The purpose of the group chat and participating with friends was accountability, everyday (or sometimes we might miss a day or two) we would let each other know we completed the assignment. That was it, just reply with “done.” We did find ourselves adding some reflections on the experience from time to time.

To really devote and commit to the Abundance Series, you should set aside about 30-45 minutes everyday. It takes about 30 minutes to do an assignment and the meditation is around 15 minutes. All of the daily tasks center on shifting your mindset into a frame of abundance, some require creativity, others require deep introspection, and some can be quite emotional while other experiences are inspiring. Committing to the series is well worth the short 21 day commitment. Its like the saying, you grow where your attention goes. I kept a notebook as I went through the experience and have re-visited it over time.

I remember visiting one of my favorite shops on my block in West End Atlanta, Sanktuari of self, a little bit before I moved. I mentioned the series I had just finished to the owner and she immediately knew it was the Abundance series and replied with the comment, “that will change your life.” I was like bingo! I’ve been thinking about doing the series again for quite some time. As I write this I think now might be a great time of year with the spring equinox right around the corner.

Drop a line in the comments below if you might want to participate in a meditation series. Make sure you google, find on spotify, or Youtube the series…. it is well worth the time to cultivate some abundance in ya life!
