Rituals can help reduce anxiety
Minding My Garden is all about rituals. Rituals for health, wellness, inspiration, and self-love. We recently came across this NPR story summarizing a book called Ritual: How Seemingly Senseless Acts Make Life Worth Living by anthropologist Dimitris Xygalatas.
The story from NPR highlights how rituals are an essential aspect of human civilization that can soothe anxiety, connect people, and help us find meaning and purpose.
Personally, I engage in a number of rituals in my daily life, all for different purposes. My rituals are centered around self-care, honoring the ancestors, and finding direction and purpose through my spiritual practices.
In studies performed by anthropologists, they found rituals can serve as a coping mechanism, can reduce cortisol levels, and soothe anxiety.
I encourage you to listen to the full interview at the link below. Let us know about some of the rituals you engage in, in the comments.
